情態動詞

can／will／should／must 等,擺喺主動詞前面,講能力、可能、建議、必要。之後一律用原形。

can／could — 能力・請求

can = 識／可以;could 較客氣或者過去。Can you…? / Could you…? 係好有禮貌嘅請求。

  • I can speak a little English.
  • Could you help me, please?

will／would — 將來・客氣

will 講將來或者意願;would 更客氣:I would like…(想要,比 I want 有禮)。

  • I'll take this one.
  • I'd like a cup of tea, please.

should — 建議

畀意見、講應該點:You should see a doctor。冇 must 咁強。

  • You should rest.
  • We should leave early.

must／have to — 必要

must / have to = 一定要。否定 must not = 禁止;don't have to = 唔使。

  • I must finish this today.
  • You don't have to come.
